Spread the Word! Bibles and hymnals for partners!
Bibles and hymnals are valuable tools, not only in worship, but also in learning to read and reducing illiteracy. The people of Mukhambe-Feha UMC hold Bibles donated by Central UMC in Kansas City, Missouri! I have never seen photos of happier faces than when Bibles and hymnals are distributed at Annual Conference [see photo below of women of Chibo UMC carrying Bibles & hymnals donated by Platte Woods UMC in Missouri]. During the December 2010 South Annual Conference an announcement was made for certain churches to send their members to the Mozambique Initiative table! Imagine their surprise when they found Bibles and hymnals for their congregations! “We are finding insufficient words to express our gratitude for the gifts of Christian life growth we are receiving from our brothers and sisters. Thank you very much |
Bibles currently cost $10 and hymnals cost $6.
A recent letter from Cuamba United Methodist Church in the Niassa Province of Mozambique shared to Missouri partner, Morning Star Church, "We have Sunday school where our children participate and this happens a few hours before our main worship service. We still struggle to get Bibles and hymnals for our children and the congregation. We heard through [MI representative] Ezequiel that you are thinking of ways to support our Christian education. We are in need of 60 Bibles and 60 hymnals, some of which will be in local languages."
If you or your church wish to donate Bibles and hymnals in Mozambique, visit www.moumethodist.org/mi, click on the "Donate" button and comment "Bibles for Mozambique" or send your contributions payable to Missouri Conference, marked 8800 Mozambique Bible fund, and mail to the Missouri Conference treasurer's office at 3601 Amron Court, Columbia MO 65202.

Bibles & Hymnals for Cambine Seminary Students
Portuguese appeal (See English below)
Existem 34 alunos Cambine.
2011 Ricatla Ecumenical Seminary students receive Bible & hymnals

In English:
Each year a new class of United Methodist students enters Cambine Seminary and Ricatla Ecumenical Seminary. They arrive with little and most do not even have a decent Bible or hymnal from which to study.
We are seeking to help the United Methodist Church in Mozambique (IMUM) Education department by finding persons who will contribute Bible and hymnals right there in Mozambique
These are your pastors of the future! Some are your lay pastors now. Please help to resource them in their education.
The cost of a Bible/hymnal set is about 426,00 MTN or $15.00 USD. Bibles and hymnals have been provided to the 12 Ricatla students funded by Missouri Conference donors. There are 34 students at Cambine who also need Bible/hymnal sets.
The fund was started with the people of Macedonia UMC (in Maputo
To make contributions send Bibles (in Portuguese) or hymnals to the Conference office or to Cambine Seminary. Send financial contributions to the conference treasurer’s office.
If you are attending the North Annual Conference session, give your contribution to IMUM Staff, ask for a receipt, and they will take it to the treasurer / education department in Maputo
Contact Rev. Olga Ranchaze Choto ochoto@yahoo.co.uk with any questions.
When I first learned of this need I was astounded – imagine, being in seminary with no resources, not even Bibles and hymnals in your own language. I know it will mean a lot if these resources come from you, and the conference will put bookplates inside the cover with your name on them. Just let Olga know.
Won’t you or your church help to resource our United Methodist seminary students with the Word!?
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God! John 1:1
If you would like to contribute in the US, send your check payable to Missouri Conference, marked "8800 Mozambique Bibles & hymnals" to the treasurer's office at 3601 Amron Court, Columbia, MO 65202.
